Safari Time

African sunset served with cocktails, of course

For a second time, we are enjoying the magical adventure of a safari. How lucky and blessed are we? Enormously.

Just a few photos from beautiful Ngala, a private reserve in the Timbavati region in the South African bush.

On a morning game drive as the rover slowly inched down the road, our ranger tracking prints, this handsome lion who was sleeping suddenly popped up next to the vehicle, scaring us all. At first he was as startled as we were, but his fatigue quickly drew him back into a relaxed state. He’d been up all night, walking, marking his territory, calling out a warning to his opponents.

In these first few days of safari, elephants, big and small have entertained us, drinking at the pool and learning to feed in the bush.

On night safari, we watched a leopardess eat her prey, a duiker, which was carefully tucked in tree branches, away from opportunistic scavengers.

IMG_8495And we’ve delighted in the curiosity of graceful giraffes.

One more day in South Africa and then we head to Victoria Falls.
We are lucky. And I’ve discovered a new drink — dry lemon fruit juice and vodka.
